I had the wonderful opportunity to meet and chat with Sandy Brown, who I’ve known for years as a ‘virtual friend’ in Love Sheffield - and now I wish I’d made the effort to meet her years ago!
Here’s a recording of our chat, please excuse the road noise as we sat outside the great Rag’n Bone cafe near Meadowhall on a beautiful sunny day.
Sandy was born in 1948, in the small village of Bradwell in the Peak District of Derbyshire. She has been married to her husband Gordon for 56 years now, and has one daughter, and a precious granddaughter. As a young child, Sandy suffered serious illness and was informed that she would not live to the age of thirty. Determined not to waste a minute of her life, she took on the role of mentor and carer to many of her family members at an early age, providing a home to unwanted and abused children and troubled adults alike, under difficult circumstances. Due to her father's protective nature, Sandy was unable to travel further afield to pursue her desired career in commercial art and settled for the study of shorthand and typing. She has been employed in various roles throughout her working life. Predominantly secretarial, and worked with the medical profession for many years, although Travel Courier, Modelling and the little thing called Motherhood, have also dominated her life. Although now retirement age, Sandy's experiences have led her to become a professional Foster Carer, working through a private Agency, providing love, care and security to neglected and damaged children, with no desire to stop in the foreseeable future. A challenging but rewarding role.
Here is a list of Sandy’s published books so far…
100 Years have passed since the 'War To End All Wars.' But many lives were affected by the outcome. Few things have survived this period in time, and yet one very precious, very special garment, did. This is a story of how it affected and touched the lives of all those who owned it, and its very tragic end.
Rhyme with Reason! “and other stuff”
Rhyme With Reason! is an anthology of poems, personal to the Author with true meaning ,which is outlined throughout the book, in order to help the poetic story come alive and give the reader an insight into what inspired the words!
I’m looking forward to sharing many more recorded chats in the coming weeks, please feel free to recommend this newsletter to your friends, and let me know if there’s an inspiring and creative Sheffielder you’d like to hear in conversation.
What a wonderful story
