Today, I had a chance to meet and chat with mc nige - Sheffield’s favourite MC. This man is another example of 100% heart giving to his community and to youngsters across Sheffield, he’s a fantastic performer, coach, mentor and an accomplished artist.
I’ll let the recording of our chat below speak for itself, and below that is a video from Nige showing some of his amazing artwork. I’ve included a few comments from his youtube channel when he began to climb back from the depths of depression after losing his best friend DJ Ranx. This man is so loved, I hope you enjoy the listen.
Here’s a throwback to MC Nige with his great friend DJ Ranx…

You sir are an inspiration to us all. Growing up wouldn’t have been the same without man like Nige around and I mean that. You make everyone who has ever met you proud and you have always put people on the right path. Keep being the king you are big man, bless up

I’ve known you a long time Nige, back in the 80’s doing all the hospitality thing. These were fun times, many times going to the Indian at the bottom of The Moor, round at yours watching Eddie Murphy or Blazing Saddles, creasing ourselves with laughter. The times in Cairo Jax dancing the night away, well you were, I was trying to dance but failing miserably
and the time you were showing off your martial art skills but got too close and smacked me right in the head
Few people have ever had a lasting impression on me but you my brother are one of them. I’ve been away from Sheffield for over 30 years but I’m returning. We will catch up and you can tell me all. Safe to you and see you soon

Thanks Nige, for sharing your raw story, wisdom and heart with us - the love and energy you’ve put into inspiring the kids will endure, and many Sheffielders will be willing you on from strength to strength in finding your path forward. I’m looking forward to seeing you on stage again soon!
If you know an inspiring and creative Sheffielder you’d like to hear in conversation, please introduce us to them, we hope to bring many new stories to you in future editions.
